One of the biggest seasons for the Virginia Tech football team in the last decade kicks off in seven days when the Hokies begin the 2025 campaign against 13th-ranked South Carolina in Atlanta.
This is a big season in terms of the future direction of the program under head coach Brent Pry. He begins the season on the hot seat, but with more questions than answers facing the program, it would be in the best interest of the program to win more than six games for a third year in a row. Of course, things could go sideways and they could less, but the vibes this summer have been very good for a program facing a big season.
One Sunday away from Virginia Tech's football opener against No. 13 South Carolina
In just seven days, the Hokies will be in the season at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta against a South Carolina team with high expectations this season. With the season a week away, without a doubt, the biggest player on the roster this seaosn is quarterback Kyron Dornes, who will wear No. 1.
After having his 2024 season cut short by injuries, QB Kyron Drones is looking for a monster bounce-back season under first-year offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery. Drones missed four of the last five games the Hokies played last season and had his spring practices cut short by a procedure, but he's fully healthy and ready to go.
Virginia Tech lost its top wide receivers and has some young players back to help Drones, while they also lost running back Bhayshul Tuten to the NFL Draft, and with Transfer Portal additions, they'll need everyone to catch up quickly with a daunting schedule the first two weeks, with Vanderbilt visiting in Week 2.
Regardless of what has happened over the long offseason, it's time for football, and we are just seven days away from the first of 12 games for Virginia Tech.
