Make no mistake about it, this is a big season at the helm of the Virginia Tech football program for Brent Pry. The former Penn State defensive coordinator enters Year 4 in Blacksburg on the hot seat with huge roster turnover and coaching staff changes.
The schedule isn't easy right out of the gate as they get a pair of SEC schools, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, in the first two weeks. If there is any silver lining, they get the Gamecocks at a neutral site in Atlanta, then the Commodores visit Lane Stadium in Week 2 as the Hokies look for some revenge for a season-opening overtime loss last season in Nashville.
This year, the Hokies will play their four non-conference games before ACC play begins, which can be good as it allows them to work on things before the meat portion of the schedule kicks off. Kelly Ford released the model that predicts how the ACC standings could turn out, and for the Hokies, it's a very promising outlook.
Virginia Tech's Kelley Ford rating has them finishing in top half of the ACC in 2025
Kelley Ford has been something that college football fans love to use and look at the metrics for the Hokies this fall in conference play offers a very promising outlook for the Hokies. The projected standings have them winning 4.5 games on average, and five would seem doable for this group.

The ACC schedule isn't extremely difficult, with three teams on Virginia Tech's schedule ahead of them on the ratings: Miami, Louisville, and Georgia Tech. The Hokies get the Hurricanes and Cardinals at home, and they are in the same group as Louisville and Georgia Tech in terms of projected wins.
Of course, games are played on the field and not in simulators, but if you asked Virginia Tech fans if they would take this projection going into the season, most, if not all, would. This would also take some of the heat off of Pry's seat and his future at the helm of the program. Here's hoping this comes to fruition.
