Entering the 2025 season, there is a lot of pressure on Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry. He is 16-21 through his first three seasons in Blacksburg, and he has struggled in one-score games.

Factor in a huge swing and a miss last season when the Hokies were expected to take the next step under Pry in the rebuild, but a 6-7 season feels like they took a step back. There was major roster turnover between the NFL Draft and the Transfer Portal, along with the coaching staff changes, creating more answers than questions as Virginia Tech enters camp.

In what seems like a pivotal season for Pry, another college football writer puts him on the hot seat entering the 2025 season.

Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry is on another hot seat entering 2025

Chip Patterson of CBS Sports dropped a "25 compelling storylines, teams, coaches, players that will dominate the 2025 college football season," and the 18th compelling storyline was coaches on the hot seat this fall. Pry cracked the list, to no one's surprise, at No. 8 out of nine coaches.

Just over a week ago, Ari Wasserman of On3 listed coaches on the hot seat, and Pry was on the list; now Patterson includes him on his list. There are a number of reasons as to why Pry keeps popping up on these lists and if he fixes one crucial area, then he'll be off the list.

By now, Pry's record in one-score games is widely known, but truth be told, fixing that area a little in 2025 would go a good amount of the way to getting some heat off of Pry. If Pry was just .500 in one-score results at Virginia Tech, the tenor of his job security is going down a more positive road.

The reports and quotes through the early part of camp are promising from the coaching staff to the players, and it wouldn't be surprising if the Hokies surprise a lot of people this season with a huge chip on their shoulder. If that happens, the heat is turned way down for Pry.
