After a slow start in terms of recruiting, business has been booming for James Franklin at Virginia Tech. The first-year Hokies coach has been picking up commitments and some good ones. In fact, his recent heater on the recruiting trail has landed Virginia Tech a Top 20 Class of 2027 ranking at 247Sports currently.

The latest commitment Virginia Tech got was four-star Massachusetts quarterback Peter Bourque. The Tabor Academy star picked the Hokies over Penn State and Georgia. Landing the former Michigan commit is a huge addition to the class for Franklin, quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien, and offensive coordinator Ty Howle.

A new member of Franklin's staff is running backs coach Norval McKenzie, and he's been cooking in recruiting as well. In April, he landed a couple of Class of 2027 tailbacks in three-star Kelvin Morrison from Pennsylavania and Stanley Smart from Georgia, also a three-star. Along with some wide receivers and a tight end, the class on the offensive side of the ball is coming together. On Tuesday, the Hokies picked up another commit, this time from a four-star running back.

4-star running back Javian Jones-Priest commits to Virginia Tech

Javian Jones-Priest has been linked to the Hokies for some time. He has over 30 offers according to 247Sports, and he had some offers from some big-time schools, including TCU, where his father played.

However, Virginia Tech made Jones-Priest a priority this recruiting cycle, and it paid off when he committed to the Hokies on Tuesday afternoon. He rushed for 1,154 yards and 12 TDs on 144 carries, averaging over eight yards per attempt in Texas. He is the latest addition to a class that is adding some playmakers on offense.

Jones-Priest is the 13th commit in the Class of 2027 and, along with joining Morrison and Smart on the offensive side, joins wide receivers Demarcus Brown, Anthony Roberts, and tight end Braxton Salster from Alabama. Jones-Priest is another four-star to commit and the latest result of the James Franklin effect at Virginia Tech.
