We are one day away from four-star Class of 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque making his second commitment. The Massachusetts native reportedly had his schools down to three: Penn State, Georgia, and Virginia Tech.
Now, this week has already been filled with more questions than answers. It's getting to the point where nobody knows what might actually happen, other than Bourque. He had a prediction logged for Penn State by a Nittany Lions beat writer, then that writer backtracked and said that fans need to learn the name Will Wood.
Wood is another four-star quarterback from Massachusetts who has yet to commit. On Wednesday, Brian Dohn, who has been glued to the Peter Bourque and Will Wood recruiting battles, logged a prediction for Wood to commit to Penn State when his time comes. It will be after Bourque makes his commitment. Dohn's prediction certainly is good news for James Franklin, Virginia Tech, and Hokies quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien.
Penn State's prediction to land Will Wood is potentially good news for Virginia Tech in the chase for Peter Bourque
So what does Wood's prediction for Penn State mean for Virginia Tech? Well, it likely means there's one less suitor for Bourque. It appears that it'll come down to Georgia and the Hokies for Bourque. Kirby Smart vs. James Franklin. You have the feeling that this won't be the last Kirby Smart vs. James Franklin recruiting battle while Franklin is in Blacksburg.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see where Bourque lands. Since de-committing from Michigan following the coaching change in December, Bourque has had a drawn-out recruitment with schools. Ohio State and Auburn were also reportedly involved. Imagine Ryan Day trying to pluck a former Michigan recruit to Columbus?
Franklin and O'Brien have spent some time on Bourque and made him a priority. They were part of a handful of schools that were in Marion, Mass., on Tuesday when Bourque worked out on his Tabor Academy field. Penn State was one of the schools there, and they were also reportedly in Westwood, Mass., on Tuesday, visiting Wood at Xaverian Brothers High School.
Bourque's decision will have an effect on the schools involved in terms of recruiting the quarterback position for the rest of the Class of 2027. Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Georgia can all overcome a recruiting loss that they could face, and it appears that the Nittany Lions are putting all their eggs in Wood's basket. We should have clarity by Thursday.
