When it comes to recruiting, there is never any downtime for first-year Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin and his staff. However, there are some big games coming up on campus, beginning on Friday night when Pittsburgh comes to town in a battle of two 4-0 teams.
There will be some recruits on campus for the game, and they should be in for not only a treat with Enter Sandman, but also a great game. However, there are some recruits who are committed to other schools that Franklin and some other coaches are not giving up on just yet. One of those is Georgia commit Kemon Spell, who is still generating interest, including from Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech is reportedly trying to flip a 5-star Georgia commit
Spell, a five-star recruit in the Class of 2027, has been committed to Georgia and Kirby Smart since February, but that hasn't stopped three other schools from looking to make a move on Rivals' No. 1-ranked running back in the current senior class.
According to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Penn State, USC, and Virginia Tech have been in communication with Spell, his family, or Rosenhaus Sports agency. It should come as no surprise that Franklin and running back coach Norvell McKenzie are in the mix, and Spell is someone who likely popped on Franklin's radar long before he was fired at Penn State last October, as a Pennsylvania native.
The nation's No. 1 RB Kemon Spell is committed to Georgia and has his next visit to Athens scheduled.

However USC, Penn State and Virginia Tech work to stay alive in the McKeesport (Pa.) High 5-star's recruitment.

Currently, Franklin and Virginia Tech have 26 commitments in the Class of 2027, which include three running backs. Three-star Javian Jones-Priest, Kelvin Morrison and Stanley Smart have committed to the Hokies.
However, if Franklin and McKenzie can flip a Georgia five-star commit to Blacksburg, that would be a huge addition to a class that already includes a four-star quarterback, Peter Bourque, from Massachsuetts, who the Hokies got a commitment from back in the spring over Georgia and Penn State. Virginia Tech already has a talented running back class, but it could be an elite room with a flip from Spell.
