This was one of the biggest coaching carousels in college football. Several high-profile coaches either were fired or are moving to other openings. When that happens, recruiting goes crazy, and that is the case this year.
James Franklin was fired at Penn State in October and hired six weeks later at Virginia Tech. He went right to work recruiting and flipped several Nittany Lions recruits to Blacksburg. He has hired a handful of his assistant coaches at Penn State at Virginia Tech, including quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien. Despite. Moving on to Virginia Tech, they are continuing to circle back to their former recruits from their previous stop and looking to make a move on a flip.
Virginia Tech in the mix to flip four-star Class of 2027 Ole Miss recruit
Lane Kiffin left earlier this month to take the job at LSU, which was opened up when Brian Kelly was fired in November. That has opened the door for coaches to make the move on commits in Oxford, and Virginia Tech is one of two teams looking to flip Class of 2027 Ole Miss quarterback commit Keegan Croucher.
According to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Virginia Tech and Kentucky are looking to flip Croucher. When Franklin and O'Brien were at Penn State, they offered Croucher, who committed to Ole Miss on Oct. 25. He remains committed to Ole Miss and is "Still very, very high on Ole Miss," but new Kentucky coach Will Stein, Oregon's offensive coordinator, and Virginia Tech are making a move to try and flip him.
Croucher will be on campus this weekend at Ole Miss to take in their College Football Playoff game against Tulane, but Franklin, O'Brien, and Virginia Tech have entered the picture for him again, and this is something to watch as time goes on. The Hokies are also in the mix to try and flip Michigan Class of 2027 QB Pete Bourque.
