Earlier this week, Evan Watkins of VTScoop dropped a Crystal Ball prediction for James Franklin and Virginia Tech to land a three-star Class of 2027 wide receiver from North Carolina, Anthony Roberts.
While that seemed like a lock, nothing is official until the commitment is verbal. That happened on Saturday when Roberst officially committed to the Hokies and Franklin, along with wide receivers coach Fontel Mines, over ACC schools Duke and Florida State. Rutgers and Wake Forest were also in the mix, as were Virginia and North Carolina State. He is expected to take a visit in late May to Blacksburg.
Virginia Tech picks up commitment from 3-star wide receiver Anthony Roberts
The 6-foot-2 Roberts, from Rolesville, N.C., becomes the fifth prospect to commit to the Hokies this month and the third offensive player this week after the commitments began along the defensive line for new coach Sean Spencer and defensive coordinator Brent Pry.

Last fall, as a junior, Roberts caught 35 passes for 656 yards, and he can make plays downfield and separate from his defender with his speed.
Roberts is the latest to pick Virginia Tech on the offensive side of the ball. Running back Kelvin Morrison committed earlier this week, as did tight end Braxton Salster from Alabama. Roberts is the seventh commit in the Class of 2027 for Franklin.
Franklin and his staff are building a class on both sides of the ball with some promising recruits. As we sit on the final weekend of April, the recruiting cycle is really going to pick up at the end of May and into June, with more recruits making official visits. There were some visits last weekend for the Virginia Tech spring game, where the staff is waiting on decisions, but so far, the class Franklin is building is good on both sides of the ball.
