This past weekend, the Virginia Tech football team had their first of two byes in the 2024 season. This week, the Hokies will return to Lane Stadium to host Boston College, who was also on a bye, on Thursday night.

While Virginia Tech and head coach Brent Pry enjoyed a bye week, several of the Hokies' six remaining opponents were in action. Here is how the future Tech opponents this season fared over the weekend.

Georgia Tech (Oct. 26)

The Yellow Jackets went on the road and did what they have done five times in their first seven games, they won. This time, they added to North Carolina's struggles in the final minute. After the Tar Heels tied the game with a field goal with 44 seconds left, Georgia Tech's Jamal Haynes ripped off a 68-yard touchdown run with 16 seconds left for a 41-34 victory.

Syracuse (Nov. 2)

The Orange improved to 5-1 under Fran Brown with a 24-17 win at North Carolina State. Syracuse held a 24-7 lead with 10:20 left in the game, but they had to hold off a late Wolfpack rally. Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord threw for 345 yards in the victory and a pair of touchdowns.

Clemson (Nov. 9)

This is hands down the hardest remaining game on the Hokies schedule. The Tigers moved to the top of the latest ACC Power Rankings last week and played like it at Wake Forest in a dominating 49-14 blowout of the Demon Deacons. Dabo Swinney has his team rolling after a season-opening loss to Georgia.

Virginia (Nov. 30)

After starting 4-1, the Cavaliers had an opportunity for a huge statement win at home over Louisville. Despite the hot start, Virginia fans did not exactly pack Scott Stadium as there were still plenty of good seats available during the game, but the Cardinals rallied for a 24-20 win with a late touchdown and then a defensive stand.

One other remaining opponent, Duke, joined the Hokies and Eagles with a bye this past weekend and they will host Florida State, who was also off, on Friday night. At 3-3, Virginia Tech needs to win at least three of their remaining games to become bowl-eligible and four of the final six will be in Blacksburg.
