It was a brutal start to the 2024-25 ACC schedule for the Virginia Tech women's basketball team. The schedule did them no favors in their first two conference games with a season-opening matchup at Duke, then a first conference home game against Florida State. The Hokies lost both of those games soundly and at 0-2, Megan Duffy was facing an early-season two-game trip.

First up was a trip to South Florida to play Miami last Sunday, then a trip to Atlanta four days later to play the 13th-ranked and undefeated Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. We were going to learn about the Hokies and what we learned was that they have a ton of heart and close games are not over until they're over.

Virginia Tech rallied in the fourth quarter to stun the Hurricanes, 68-64, before upsetting the Yellow Jackets, 105-94, in double overtime to improve their ACC record to 2-2. After playing three of their first four games in the conference on the road, they begin a three-game homestand Sunday afternoon.

Virginia Tech will open the homestand hosting Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon. They will also host Virginia and then Louisville on Liz Kitley night on Jan. 19.

Date: Sunday, Jan. 12
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Venue: Cassell Coliseum
How to Watch: ACC Network Extra or FuboTV
Virginia Tech Record: 11-4 (2-2 ACC)
Wake Forest Record: 7-8 (0-4 ACC)

This is a game where the Hokies would be heavily favored as the Demon Deacons enter the game as one of three winless ACC teams in conference play with Pittsburgh and Syracuse. They did take Louisville to overtime at home before falling by five points, but they are coming off a 36-point loss at No. 3 Notre Dame on Thursday night.

This might be a little more challenging game for Duffy and her team as usually the first game back home after a road trip can be tough, but if they can get out to a quick start and put doubt in Wake Forest's head, then they could set themselves up for a good afternoon.
