Entering the season, the heat was on Brent Pry as head coach of the Virginia Tech football team. To compound matters for the fourth-year boss, the schedule to begin the season wasn't easy with 13th-ranked South Carolina in Atlanta last weekend, then an up-and-coming Vanderbilt team in their home opener on Saturday night.
It was about as much of a must-win as there is for a Week 2, and despite leading 20-10 going into halftime, it wasn't as pretty as you would think. Halftime adjustments were going to be key against the Commodores and quarterback Diego Pavia. Sadly, there were no adjustments, and the only adjustments came from the visitors' sideline.
The end result was a 34-0 whipping by Vanderbilt in the second half that was total domination in a 44-20 rout. So much so that Lane Stadium was left with just Vanderbilt fans over the final few minutes of the game. A once proud program is crumbling in front of a fanbase that deserves so much more. Now, after the latest flop in just 30 minutes on the game clock, Hokies' fans are left with one question: How much is Brent Pry's buyout?
How much is Brent Pry's buyout at Virginia Tech?
It's going to be a very interesting couple of days in Blacksburg surrounding the program, but if a move is made, Pry's buyout is $5.825 million, and honestly, that is cheap compared to some other coaches in this day and age of college football.
There needed to be progress in the first two weeks, even though both were losses; however, no progress was made from Week 1 to Week 2. In fact, it went in reverse so badly that fans were done with Pry before the final 30 minutes even ended.
What happens remains to be seen, as some have suggested that athletic director Whit Babcock should also be on the hot seat. Not many ADs get the opportunity to hire and fire three coaches. Usually, after two, the package deal is let go. Decisions need to be made, but it is not an expensive one compared to other programs.
