Leading 20-10 at halftime, it didn't feel like the Virginia Tech football team had a 10-point lead on visiting Vanderbilt. They scored their two touchdowns off two Commodores' turnovers, and after dominating the time of possession, you knew a 10-point lead wasn't safe.
It wasn't.
As if you didn't see this coming, Vanderbilt and quarterback Diego Pavia dominated and I mean dominated the second half to the tune of outscoring the Hokies, 34-0, to cruise to a 44-20 win and sweep the two games over the last two years. The final 30 minutes might have been the most embarrassing of the Brent Pry era.
Virginia Tech's defense wasn't able to slow down, contain, or heck, even stop Pavia and the Commodores, who did what they wanted, when they wanted, and put on an impressive show to improve to 2-0. At 0-2, the Hokies have some soul-searching to do.
Virginia Tech fans have had it through two weeks of the 2025 season
During the second half domination by Vanderbilt, Hokies fans went to X to unleash their frustration about not only how the second half went, but the first two games in general.
I have a feeling another players only meeting will do the trick! @HokiesFB

If Brent Pry is employed by the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University a week from now I will be beside myself.

I promise you I’d make a better coach/coordinator at this point @HokiesFB

At home, 10 point lead, opponent gave you two turnovers, and you get run off your own field in the second half

Yeah no way to spin this
Backed pry though he was right for job I belive it's time for a change drones even looks like a deer in the headlights

Its over. Pry is done. Glad there’s 50 recruits there that will never play for this coach.

This is a dark time for the Virginia Tech program, and Saturday night might have been the final straw for a fanbase that has stuck by their team forever, but there has to be a line drawn. A lot of questions are going to be asked about Pry's future in Blacksburg, but truth be told, it would be a little surprising to see Pry let go with two new coordinators and a new offensive line coach, but hey, who knows? Anything is possible, right?
Up next are home games against Old Dominion and Wofford in their final two non-conference games before ACC play begins, but right now, it's a dark time for the program after this performance at home.
