We are a couple of weeks away from fall camps opening for college football, and we are under seven weeks away from Virginia Tech opening the season in Atlanta on Aug. 30 against South Carolina in a standalone Sunday afternoon game on Labor Day Weekend.

This is setting up to be a season of expect the unexpected for Brent Pry in Year 4 of his tenure in Blacksburg and really one where his future might be on the line. The problem is that, unlike going into last year, he has had big roster turnover between the transfer portal and the NFL Draft. Factor in a tougher schedule, and it's a recipe for a season of expecting anything in 2025.

Hammering this Virginia Tech football over/under in 2025 at DraftKings is a no-brainer bet

With all of that said above, the Hokies over/under win total at DraftKings is 6.5, and if you're going to drop a bet on Virginia Tech before the seaosn begins, taking the under is a safe bet. Why? Well, there are a number of reasons.

The biggest being until Pry proves that he can win a one-score game, then we all know how that will likely turn out. You get the feeling that there are going to be a handful of one-score games in the Hokies' future in 2025. If Pry had proven that he can win some one-score games, then taking the over might be a sneaky-good bet.

Quarterback Kyron Drones returns, along with Pop Watson, but they will be playing behind a brand new offensive line that is getting a daunting task out of the gate against South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Along with a new offensive line coach and two new coordinators, there will be some learning on the go.

After getting the Gamecocks in Atlanta, Virginia Tech gets Vanderbilt at home to kick off a three-game homestand with winnable games against Wofford and Old Dominion following. The ACC slate is tough, especially in November, where if they don't have four, if not five, wins entering the month, then bowl eligibility will be tough to navigate.

Looking at everything, all signs point to a six-win season, if not five, and if they are going to get to seven or more, winning three out of four non-conference games are a must, then winning a road game or two in ACC play outside of Virginia (which won't be easy). It would not be the least bit surprising if the Hokies board the bus for Charlottesville Thanksgiving Weekend needing to win to become bowl-eligible. I hope I'm wrong, but the under 6.5 wins for Tech seems like a no-brainer.
