When former Virginia Tech guard Jaydon Young entered the transfer portal, it was a loss for the Hokies and head coach Mike Young. Coming off the bench this season, Jaydon Young had his moments and big games in the second half of the season for the Hokies.
There is no doubt that the talent is there, and his athleticism was on display on most nights. Whether it was defending or offensively, Jaydon Young always hustled and was someone who could fill up the boxscore if he got hot. Just ask Miami and Syracuse.
In the current day and age of the transfer portal, it wasn’t surprising to see him enter the portal to find a new home. After committing to High Point, they went through a coaching change, and that allowed Jaydon Young to rethink his commitment. In the end, he went back into the portal and found a new home in the ACC with a conference powerhouse.
Former Virginia Tech guard Jaydon Young explains what UNC is getting in him
It’s not surprising that North Carolina made a run at Jaydon Young and got a commitment from him. It’s a blueblood program, and he will fill a vital depth role off the bench for head coach Hubert Davis. Jaydon Young spoke after committing to the Tar Heels and explained what they were getting in him as a player, and it’s hard to argue with what the former Hokie said about himself.
“You’re getting a competitor,’’ said Jaydon Young.
That’s for sure. Virginia Tech fans saw it night in and night out when he took the floor. As mentioned, whether it was on the offensive or defensive end, Jaydon Young would lay it all on the line for his team. He went on to say that he has nothing but good things to say about Hokies coach Mike Young and the program, and Virginia Tech’s loss is North Carolina’s gain. Tech is losing a competitor.
