Now that the NCAA Tournament is onto the Sweet 16, it's time for the yearly craziness to begin. No, I don't mean that Sweet 16 as that doesn't get underway until later this week, I mean the basketball transfer portal. The college sports edition of free agency for Basketball is officially underway.
Last season, Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young saw a mass exodus out of Blacksburg with four players playing in the NCAA Tournament this season. After a 13-19 season in 2024-25, the veteran coach needs to again hit the portal hard and find more talent for next season to turn things around. he is reportedly getting a bigger NIL package this season, so we'll see what he is able to do.
There are going to be players leaving Blacksburg and some coming in for next season and expect things to get wild over the next month like it did last season when Sean Pedulla kicked things off by announcing that he was entering the portal after a second-round NIT loss at Ohio State.
With the portal officially opening on Monday, March 24, here is a running transfer portal tracker for the Virginia tech men.

Players leaving Virginia Tech
Rodney Brown, Jr.
Rodney Brown, Jr. spent one season in Blacksburg after transferring from California. Injuries and illnesses hampered his play in the second half of the season as he provided energy and defense off the bench. It's not surprising to see him in the portal.
Jaydon Young
So far, the biggest surprise leaving is Jaydon Young who came on in the second half of the season scoring the ball and playing good defense. He will be a noticeable loss next season.
Patrick Wessler
Mylyjael Poteat is graduating and his backup, Patrick Wessler is entering the portal after really coming along this season. He was a solid rebounder at both ends of the floor and improved his touch around the basket.
Brandon Rechsteiner
Another player who played well down the stretch was point guard Brandon Rechsteiner. He had 19 points in the ACC Tournament loss to California and single-handedly kept the Hokies in the game. He said after the game that he wants to work on protecting the ball better next season, and he'll be doing that with another program.
Ryan Jones
A freshman, Ryan Jones is in the portal after playing in just five games for the Hokies this season.
