If there is one thing we know, it's that the Virginia Tech football team enters the 2025 season with a lot more questions than answers than it did going into 2024. A 6-7 campaign that was underachieving and with turnover between the transfer portal and players using up their eligibility, it's going to be interesting to see things play out.
Along with roster turnover, there was a lot of coaching turnover as well with head coach Brent Pry firing three assistant coaches and hiring a new offensive line coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator. Combine that with a new-look roster, you can easily see why there are more questions than answers.
Let's not overlook the fact that the schedule is going to be harder with a pair of SEC schools, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, the first two games on the slate. Quarterbacks Kyron Drones and Pop Watson are returning which gives new offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery some experience back there. FanDuel Sportsbook released their over/under win total for the Hokies this season and it was not a surprise in the least bit.
FanDuel Sportsbook releases Virginia Tech football's 2025 over/under win total
The gambling sportsbook listed Virginia Tech's win total at 6.5 for the upcoming season. That's a number that is very difficult to bet on if we're being serious. Combining the changes with the transfer portal activity and the schedule, good luck placing a bet anytime soon on the Hokies.
Here is a breakdown of the other ACC schools on Virginia Tech's schedule,
- California - 6.5
- Florida State - 7.5
- Georgia Tech - 7.5
- Louisville - 8.5
- Miami - 8.5
- North Carolina State - 6.5
- Virginia - 5.5
For the record, the only ACC school that wasn't listed by the site was Wake Forest. Regardless, 6.5 is a number that needs a lot of thinking. The case could be made to take the over and get seven wins, and there is a case to take the under and see them winning five or six games. It might be best to see what happens this spring before laying down some money on the Hokies for next fall.
