Every fall, it's the goal of each school to get in the mix to host ESPN College GameDay. They have visited Blacksburg six times and they were hoping to do it for a seventh time this season when Clemson comes to town on Nov. 9.

That is unlikely to happen now that the Hokies have started the season 3-3 after entering the season with a ton of high expectations. This week, they will host Boston College on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. Earlier in the afternoon, Virginia Tech will be hosting a first.

ESPN SportsCenter to broadcast live from Blacksburg Thursday afternoon

It's not College GameDay, but hey, it's something. ESPN SportsCenter will broadcast live from 2-3 p.m. on the Quillen Spirit Plaza outside Dietrick Hall in the area facing Washington Street, and Matt Barrie will host the hour-long broadcast. The public is invited to attend if you're in the area.

Barrie, who hosts the 2-3 live SportsCenter during the week, will also be the play-by-play voice at Lane Stadium for the game with Dan Mullen the analyst. Barrie, if you remember, was high on the Hokies going into the season and even had them as a playoff sleeper for the new 12-team College Football Playoff field this season, which was laughed at by Paul Finebaum.

This upcoming weekend, College GameDay will be in Texas for the SEC showdown between Texas and Georgia. It has been some time since GameDay was at Virginia Tech and it's highly unlikely it'll happen this season, but settling for SportsCenter is not a bad consolation prize. I know it's only an hour-long show, but it should get everyone even more excited for a huge clash with the Eagles later that night.
