Virginia Tech the latest to feel the wrath of Paul Finebaum
By Scott Roche
This summer, Florida State has been on Paul Finebaum's radar, and not for good reasons. The outspoken ESPN talk show host took a shot at the Seminoles a couple of weeks ago when he said that they used up too many tears after being left out of the four-team College Football Playoff last season.
An SEC talking head, Finebaum sees little outside of the mighty SEC and on Friday, he joined ESPN's Get Up with Matt Barrie and Heather Dinich. Barrie released his 12-team CFP bracket which had Georgia, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Texas, Alabam, Ole Miss, Penn State, Missouri, Utah, and Memphis.
Dinich disagreed with Barrie's 12-team field and so did Finebaum, of course. When it came to picking apart the list, he, of course, started with Virginia Tech being in there.
"That's a fairly embarrassing field,'' Finebaum said. "I don't know what you're thinking about. Oklahoma State not happening and Virginia Tech? I mean Matt, please, you must be going to Virginia Tech early in the season for a game to try and suck up and butter them up. I can't come up with anything that rivals the idiocy of that one.''
Clearly, Finebaum is not on the Virginia Tech hype train going into the 2024 season. In the big picture, nobody shouldn't expect anything less from him. Of course, the Hokies are a long shot to get into the CFP and they are a long shot as well to win the ACC Championship. They have a doable schedule to get both accomplished, but it's going to be a difficult road. I have them going 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the ACC and that will not be good enough to get into the ACC Championship Game.
Regardless of what happens, hello Florida State fans, Virginia Tech has joined you in getting the wrath of Paul Finebaum entering 2024.
