There are going to be a lot of eyes on the Virginia Tech football team in 2025. Not only head coach Brent Pry, but also quarterback Kyron Drones, who is looking to rebound from an up-and-down 2024 campaign that saw him miss four of the last five games because of injuries.

After the hype surrounding 2024, the Hokies' frustrating season began with an overtime loss in Week 1 at Vanderbilt and ultimately resulted in another 6-6 season. It was two to three fewer wins than most thought. Athlon Sports released their 2025 predictions for the ACC, and they have Virginia Tech right where you would expect them.

There has been a lot of turnover with the Virginia Tech roster between the transfer portal and the NFL Draft, while Pry has surrounded himself with a whole new assistant coaches. Here is what they wrote about the Hokies in their write-up.

"The Hokies entered 2024 with high expectations and optimism following a 7-6 season. But instead of a step forward, injuries hit this team hard and coach Brent Pry’s team needed a late victory over Virginia on Nov. 30 just to get bowl eligible. Is a large transfer haul and staff changes enough for the program to show improvement in what could be a make-or-break year for Pry?"

"After battling injuries throughout the ‘24 season, a healthy year from quarterback Kyron Drones should be a huge boost for this offense under new coordinator Philip Montgomery."

Look, there is no other way to put it, this is a make-or-break year for Pry and Drones. What that means in terms of numbers of wins and losses and if he stays or goes when the dust settles, remains to be seen, but if we're being honest, Athlon nails Virginia Tech's landing spot for the fall.
