Brent Pry's delusional comment proves he’s out of touch with reality at Virginia Tech

Brent Pry explained why he's the right guy to lead the Virginia Tech program, and it was a little bit out of touch.

If you thought that the second half that the Virginia Tech football team played last weekend at home against Vanderbilt was bad when they were outscored 34-0 and completely overmatched, just wait.

Actually, all you needed to do was wait a week, and the Hokies would one-up themselves. They managed to do it on Saturday night at Lane Stadium in a non-conference matchup with Old Dominion. The Monarchs came to Blacksburg and raced out to a 28-0 halftime lead on their way to a 45-26 rout of the Hokies. The loss dropped Virginia Tech to 0-3 for the first time since 1987.

As if the fanbase wasn't frustrated enough following last week's performance, Saturday night's outing put them over the edge by halftime. They have been calling for head coach Brent Pry to be relieved of his duties, but after the loss to ODU, he still thinks he's the right guy for the job.

Brent Pry has a delusional quote after Old Dominion routs Virginia Tech

After the loss in his postgame press conference, Pry was asked if he is the right head coach for Virginia Tech. Part of his response really opened some eyes, if we're being honest. He is 16-24 in his 40 games as head coach of the Hokies.

I'm not sure what he's talking about when he said he sees the strides they have made as a program, but from the time his career began in his first game in 2022 with a loss at Old Dominion to Saturday night's latest flop, against Old Dominion, there have been no strides made.

It has been the same this year, through three games, as it has been in the past: mistakes on the field, questionable coaching decisions, poor clock management, penalties, undisciplined football, and just an overall lack of football IQ that has plagued the program.

There have been no strides made, and now the question is, who is going to be the next guy to lead a program that is moving further back from the glory days with each passing week to get them back there?
