After playing two SEC schools to open the season, the Virginia Tech football team was hoping to get into the win column at home on Saturday night against Old Dominion. The problem is, in 2025, nothing is easy for the Hokies.

After playing the worst half of football in the Brent Pry era in Blacksburg last week against Vanderbilt when they were outscored 34-0 in the second half, the Hokies followed it up with maybe the second worst half of football of the Pry era against the Monarchs who sliced through the defense for three scoring drives, two off of turnovers to take a commanding 28-0 lead into halftime.

Virginia Tech booed off the field against Old Dominion at halftime

Virginia Tech's offense struggled on its first two drives before the running game got going, and trailing 7-0 late in the first quarter, Kyron Drones scrambled on 3rd-and-11 and had the first down inside the ODU 3, but fumbled the ball. Old Dominion turned that into a 97-yard scoring drive for a 14-0 lead.

On the ensuing Hokies drive, they got the ball to midfield when Drones dropped back and threw an interception into double coverage at the Monarchs' 12-yard line. Old Dominion turned that pick into an 88-yard scoring drive for a 21-0 lead. Then ODU added a touchdown with 53 ticks left in the first half for a 28-0 lead.

Through the last four quarters at Lane Stadium, Virginia Tech has been outscored 62-0. That's right, combined between Vanderbilt and Old Dominion. Fans have had enough and began booing and are again calling for Pry's job. ODU racked up 334 yards of total offense, and all four scoring drives were 77 yards or longer.

Pry is about to be sent packing sooner rather than later in Blacksburg, and fans are hoping it happens sooner rather than later. Athletic director Whit Babcock should also be in trouble, and this is turning into what could be a very interesting remaining of the weekend in Blacksburg.
