One week before the annual Spring Game for the Virginia Tech football team, news broke that starting quarterback Kyron Drones was going to miss the rest of the spring to undergo a medical procedure. You were hoping with all the injuries that were piling up that the Hokeis would avoid more.

Think again.

Less than an hour before kick-off on Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium, it was reported by a number of people that backup QB Pop Watson was throwing before the game but did not have pads or his helmet with him. It was later reported by Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline that Watson was going to miss the game because he was dealing with a "soft tissue" issue. Following the game, head coach Brent Pry gave some injury updates on some of his key players.

After the game, which ended up being the offense against the defense due to the number of injuries and players absent from the game, Pry had some injury updates as the spring session officially came to a close. Pry said that Drones underwent surgery on Wednesday and that it "went well.'' He also said that Watson was dealing with a soft-tissue injury he suffered earlier in the week and decided to hold him out.

Needing to add players to the defensive line, which lost a ton of talent from last spring, the Hokies got a commitment from Texas State transfer Ben Bell. The talented edge missed the game on Saturday with his arm in a sling, but according to Pry, he'll be ready for summer workouts when they begin.

File this under something you never thought that you would see in 2025, but tight end Benji Gosnell missed the game for a family wedding, according to Tim Thomas of The Tech Lunch Pail. Never seen that one before.
