One question among many facing the Virginia Tech football team entering the 2025 season is who is going to take over the running back duties with Bhayshul Tuten off to the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Head coach Brent Pry added some running backs through the Transfer Portal, and one of them, Terion Stewart from Bowling Green, is someone who is being looked upon as the leading candidate to get a lot of those carries, but it appears that he will be missing for a while.
Virginia Tech RB Terion Stewart reportedly in a walking boot at practice on Wednesday
We are just 11 days away from the Hokies kicking off the 2025 season in Atlanta against No. 13 South Carolina, but it appears that Virginia Tech is dealing with another injury to a key player. Kolby Crawford of 247Sports and VTScoop reported that Stewart was not practicing and was seen in a walking boot. Not good. The Hokies are already dealing with injuries to wide receiver Chanz Wiggins and offensive lineman Brody Meadows earlier in camp.
Pry said Wednesday that Stewart is day-to-day, wide receiver Takye Heath had a minor tweak, Wiggins is doubtful for South Carolina, and Meadows is in "good shape, according to Crawford. Another wide receiver, Keylen Adams, was in the trainers' room.
Stewart's absence, which doesn't seem to be a lengthy one, leaves the touches to Coastal Carolina transfer Braydon Bennett and Central Missouri transfer Marcellous Bennett, along with returning Hokies Jeremiah Coney and P.J. Prioleau.
This is less than ideal timing for injuries for Virginia Tech's offensive units, but so is life in camp ahead of a new season.
