With a three-touchdown lead and less than five minutes left Thursday night, the Virginia Tech football team was looking to run out the clock against Boston College on their way to a 42-21 win. Despite having a three-score lead, Hokies head coach Brent Pry was facing one of his more difficult decisions in the game.

With the result well in hand, the third-year coach was faced with a decision and he ended up making one that he would normally never make. After the win, he explained his decision and in the big picture, it was the right one.

Brent Pry makes correct Bhaysbhul  Tuten decision

Pry is never going to be a coach who runs up a score or shows up another team. That’s not in his DNA. That’s why he was faced with a late-game decision against the Eagles and it was the right one.

Running back Bhayshul Tuten has closing in on a historic night in Blacksburg. He was 10 yards away from the all-time single-game rushing record at Virginia Tech. Pry made sure his back got what he deserved, at the top of the list.

Pry put Tuten back in and he eclipsed the yards needed with a carry for a first down to finish the game with 266 yards on the ground. That is a new single-game Hokies record and let’s not forget the three rushing touchdowns and one receiving either.

"I usually don't like that," said Pry. "But, a school record at a place like Tech with so many great running backs, and he was deserving of his performance."

He’s right, Tuten was more than deserving of the record and it was the right decision. It was a performance that people will talk about for a long time and his draft stock rose through the roof with his performance. Coaches don’t like to do what Pry did and he doesn’t either, but in the overall big picture, it was the right move on a memorable night.
