It's been two years since running back Bhayshul Tuten hit the transfer portal out of North Carolina A&T. In December of 2022, he committed to Boston College and former coach Jeff Hafley, only to decommit. When he decommitted, Virginia Tech swooped in.

Shortly after de-committing from the Eagles, Tuten committed to Brent Pry and the Hokies. He has turned into not only one of the top backs in the ACC but also the country. In two games since arriving in Blacksburg, he had tormented the Eagles in two meetings.

It's one thing to have a player commit to you and then de-commit. It's also another thing to have that player go to another school in your conference and then inject pain on you for two years in a row. That's what Tuten has done.

Last season Virginia Tech traveled to Chestnut Hill, Mass. in a game in November that they needed to win if they had any visions of becoming bowl-eligible. Tuten rushed for just 78 yards on 16 carries, but he scored three touchdowns in a 48-22 Hokies rout.

Thursday night at Lane Stadium, Tuten set the Virginia Tech all-time single-game rushing record with 266 yards on 18 carries and three rushing touchdowns to go along with a receiving touchdown. What a night. He ripped off touchdown runs of 83, 6, and 61 yards. He hit the holes hard on his two long runs to run away from the Eagles' defense. On his 6-yard run, he ran over defenders and wouldn't be denied the end zone. Impressive stuff.

Current Boston College coach Bill O'Brien, who is in his first year in charge of the Eagles was not the head coach when Tuten committed to BC. However, he was on the wrong end of his record-breaking night and had to be asking himself, why can't we get a running back like that? They had him, but couldn't hold onto him.
