Coming off a bye one of the big questions we were looking to have answered was which Virginia Tech football team were going to get? Were we going to get the one that stumbled out of the gate or the one that rebounded from a frustrating loss at Miami by going out to Stanford and drubbing the Cardinal, 31-7 on Oct. 5?

21. 431. ACC. 42. 447. Final

In the end, aside from the third quarter, we got the latter and for Boston College, they took the first punch early and often from the Hokies who jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead on their way to their second ACC victory of the season.

Instant reaction from Virginia Tech's win over Boston College

Virginia Tech played as close to a perfect first half as they could have. The only mistake was a Kyron Drones fumble on a fourth down scramble that picked up a first down on a 17-yard run, but he fumbled it and the Eagles recovered at their 24-yard line.

Other than that, the Hokies scored on their four other possessions that resulted in touchdowns, two each for Drones and Bhyshul Tuten, who ripped off an 83-yard touchdown run. Drones was 12-for-13 through the air, his only incompletion a drop by Da'Quan Felton. Not to be overlooked, but Virginia Tech came to play in the opening 30 minutes, forcing two turnovers on fumbles and the offense turned both into points with touchdowns. And then the second half happened.

Holding what seemingly was a lead that would allow them to cost in the second half, Virginia Tech suddenly turned into the September Hokies in a matter of 5:53. After stopping the Hokies on the first drive of the half, BC drove the length of the field to get on the board, then a bad Drones interception led to a touchdown, then Tuten fumbled after picking up a first down which led to another. touchdown. Another disaster quarter for Tech in 2024.

Entering the fourth quarter with their backs against the wall, the Hokies caught a huge break. A pass completion for BC had a receiver break a tackle and pick up a first down. After review, it was brought back a yard short of the first down, and then on fourth down at midfield, Jaden Keller made a huge tackle to give the offense the ball at the BC 49. Three plays later, Tuten scored his third touchdown of the game for a two-touchdown lead.

Boston College quickly drove down the field and had to settle for a field goal, but again, the Hokies caught a break when a bad snap on a field goal attempt gave them the ball at their own 39 and Tuten sealed the game with a 61-yard touchdown run on the very next play. Tuten finished with 18 carries, 266 yards, and three touchdowns on the ground and one through the air. He now holds the all-time single-game rushing record with his performance. Antwaun Powell-Ryland finished with four sacks defensively.

It wasn't always pretty, but the Hokies answered the adversity in the fourth quarter after a bad third quarter. Now at 4-3, it's onto Georgia Tech next weekend.
