Brent Pry can go down a road well-traveled by other coaches on the recruiting trail

Recruiting in the Class of 2026 has been slow in terms of commitment for Virginia Tech and head football coach Brent Pry. To date, the Hokies have just commitments, and they have had two huge de-commitments that are massive losses in the big picture.

After committing last June, four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone from Nazareth, Pa. de-committed in November before committing to Penn State and James Franklin. In January, four-star wide receiver Carnell Warren committed to the Hokies, then last week, he de-committed and was on a recruiting weekend this weekend at North Carolina. That would be some decision if he goes to the Tar Heels.

Now, with the final weekend of visits all but in the books until the season officially begins in late August, there are going to be some commitments coming up over the summer in the Class of 2026 and just how many remains to be seen, but Pry's best way of getting more commitments in the class might be flipping some recruits.

They have an opportunity to do it this weekend with four-star Syracuse commit, Amare Gough, on a visit after he committed to the Orange last month. After losing Warren's commitment, getting a flip of the in-state recruit. A playmaker, he is exactly what Pry needs in the class.

Recruiting has been a hot topic button for Pry, and he has done some good work since taking over for Justin Fuente in terms of mending relationships in the Commonwealth, but more commitments are certainly needed. There is no debating that Pry has done some outstanding work through the transfer portal in terms of getting players from Virginia to come home and finish their college career in Blacksburg, but when it comes to high school recruiting, the overall results have been mixed.

More commitments are needed in the class, but one way that Pry can do that is by attempting a flip or two. It won't be easy, but possible.
