Back in late June, quarterback Peyton Falzone from Nazareth, Pa. committed to Virginia Tech and Brent Pry in the Class of 2026. Since committing, he has been on campus a number of times this fall for visits and was even recruiting for his class with other recruits. As it turns out, he'll never be on campus in Blacksburg as a member of the Hokies.

Nearly five months after committing to Virginia Tech, Falzone de-committed Wednesday and will open up his recruiting, according to 247Sports. As a junior this season, the 6-foot-5, 200-pound signal caller threw for 2,136 yards and 23 touchdowns, while rushing for 743 yards and eight more touchdowns. He recently was named a four-star quarterback.

Peyton Falzone de-committing is a huge blow to Virginia Tech

There is no other way to put it, but this is a significate loss for Pry and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen. Falzone had a visit this past weekend at Ohio State for the Buckeyes win over Indiana and he has visits this weekend to Iowa on Friday and Syracuse on Saturday to watch the Orange play Miami in a highly-touted ACC battle.

"After deep thought and consideration, I've made the difficult decision to decommit from Virginia Tech at this time," said Falzone to 247Sports. "From day one, my family and I were treated with love and respect by the entire staff at Virginia Tech. I am deeply thankful to Coach Pry, Coach Bowen, and everyone in the Hokie family who believed in me and supported my development. I'll always have great respect and love for Blacksburg and the Hokies.''

Falzone holds offers from Wisconsin, Penn State, Kent State, and others, but losing one of the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2026 is a huge blow for Pry and the Hokies. Virginia Tech currently has Class of 2025 QBs Kelden Ryan and AJ Brand committed, but it's back to the drawing board for the Class of 2025.
