When Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry fired three coaches last season, including offensive line coach Ron Crook, it was a move that needed to be made. A few weeks later, Pry hired former West Virginia offensive line coach Matt Moore, which was a very underrated hiring.

Moore has a tough job ahead of him rebuilding the line, not only this year, but in the future in Blacksburg. He added some transfers from West Virginia that followed him to Virginia Tech through the portal for next season, but on Wednesday, he picked up a commitment that bodes well for the future.

Virginia Tech picks up three-star offensive lineman commit in the Class of 2026

It has been a busy month of recruits for Pry and Virginia Tech and Woodberry Forest, Virginia native, offensive lineman Buddy Wegdam visited Blacksburg on May 30, and he was one of the sought-after linemen in the Class of 2026. Wednesday morning, the 6-foot-6, 280-pound Wegdam committed to the Hokies over other Power 4 schools.

A three-star according to 247Sports, Wegdam picked Virginia Tech over ACC schools Duke and North Carolina State, as well as Michigan State out of the Big Ten. He is the fifth commit in the Class of 2026 for Pry, who is inching closer to Wake Forest as the lowest number in the ACC. This is the third commitment in five days for Virginia Tech.

What was a huge factor in making his decision, Wegdam told Kolby Crawford of 247Sports that Virginia Tech, “It felt like a second family for me.” That has been the culture that Pry has built during his time in Blacksburg, and it's making an impact along with Moore in recruiting. There is still more work to do, as there always is in recruiting, but the last five days have been a big hit for the Hokies in recruiting.
