After a 45-26 loss to Old Dominion on Sept. 13, it was only a matter of time before Virginia Tech fired football coach Brent Pry. The next day, it was announced that they were moving on from him and named offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery the interim coach for the rest of the season.

After a 0-3 start, the Hokies have won two out of three games under Montgomery, going into this weekend's game at Georgia Tech. The results under Montgomery have been better, and the team has looked better.

On Tuesday, Georgia Tech coach Brent Key met with the media ahead of this weekend's game and he is not taking the Hokies lightly despite the changes they have gone through over the last month. He spoke about Pry's firing while also being leery of the team he'll face.

"I think Brent Pry was a great man,'' said Key. " (He's) a really good football coach, and you hate it at any time that happens in a building, and you hate it for people in the field, and that's what you really hate it for. But you know, he's put together a good roster, he's got this one instilled in the team, and there's talk about it and whatnot, but really in the day, none of that really matters.''

Despite being a two-touchdown favorite over the Hokies, Key isn't taking this game lightly. His team is coming off its first bye of the season, and the last time they played was a win over Wake Forest on the road in overtime on Sept. 27.

The roster might not be what it was before Virginia Tech fired Pry, as some players have hit the portal, but it doesn't matter to Key. It's an ACC game at home for the 13th-ranked team in the country, which cannot afford a letdown against a team looking to get through the 2025 season before big changes are coming.
