Now that the College Football Championship Game is in the books, all eyes have turned to the 2026 season. That will be James Franklin's first as head coach of Virginia Tech. Hired in mid-November, Franklin has put together a recruiting class, overhauled the roster through the Transfer Portal, and put together his first staff in Blacksburg.
Now all that is left is getting his official schedule. That was released on Monday night when the ACC announced the schedules for all of its teams. Things have changed this year as the conference is moving to nine games for some teams, and one of those teams is Virginia Tech. Every school must play 10 power conference games. Here is the complete Hokies schedule for this fall.
Virginia Tech 2026 football schedule
- Sept. 5: vs. VMI
- Sept. 12: vs. Old Dominion
- Sept. 19: at Maryland
- Sept. 26: at Boston College
- Oct. 2: vs. Pittsburgh
- Oct. 10: at California
- Oct. 17: vs. Georgia Tech
- Oct. 24: at Clemson
- Nov. 6 or 7: at SMU
- Nov. 14: vs. Stanford
- Nov. 20: at Miami
- Nov. 28: vs. Virginia
One change that everyone is aware of by now is the Hokies dropping James Madison from their schedule earlier this month, and it is being replaced by a ninth ACC game, at SMU. Virginia Tech will play VMI, Old Dominion, and Maryland in its non-conference schedule before ACC play begins. They will be looking for some revenge for their loss at home this past September that began the changes with Brent Pry being fired.
Once ACC play begins, it's going to be a difficult schedule for Franklin and his team. They open ACC play at Boston College, before returning home to host Pittsburgh on Friday, Oct. 2. They then travel to California the following weekend, before returning home to host Georgia Tech. A trip to Clemson follows before a bye week Halloween Weekend.
Virginia Tech will travel to SMU on either Friday, Nov. 6, or Saturday, Nov. 7, before hosting Stanford the following weekend. The Hokies will play on Friday, Nov. 20, at Miami at Hard Rock Stadium against the Hurricanes before closing out the regular season Thanksgiving Weekend at home against Virginia.
