Opening odds for Virginia Tech football to win it all are unsprisingly horrendous

In reality, it's going to take time.

When James Franklin was hired to be the next football coach at Virginia Tech, it brought new excitement to the fanbase. Now, any realistic Hokies fan knows that expecting a major turnaround in terms of a National Championship as quickly as 2026 is rather unrealistic.

However, it can't get any worse than it was in 2025 for Virginia Tech fans, going 3-9 and dealing with all the stuff on and off the field they did. The only thing that kept them grinding through it all was the possibility that Franklin was going to take the job in Blacksburg, which he officially did in November.

Since taking over, he has made strides in a major overhaul of the roster between the Transfer Portal and incoming freshmen. Factor that in, along with some key retention, along with a new staff, and hopes are high once again going into 2026. What the benchmark ends up being remains to be seen, but the odds were released for the 2027 National Championship, and the Hokies were what you would expect them to be.

Virginia Tech football's odds released to win National Championship next season

Now that this past college football season is in the books, the odds for next season and the National Championship were released by DraftKings, and as far as the Hokies go, it is rather unsurprisingly high. They are +15000 to capture the reigns from Indiana. Those odds are, however bettet than the little brother's despite their one good season in decades. Virginia has +20000 odds to win it.

Next season's schedule is going to be released on Monday at 6 p.m. EST on the ACC Network. What we know is that VMI, Old Dominion, and Maryland are on it for non-conference games, and Virginia Tech will play nine ACC games, which led to them dropping James Madison from the scheduled slate for 2026.
