Another Moral Victory For Virginia Tech Football

5-4 Virginia Tech once again finds a way to lose a close game. When will the cycle end, and more importantly when will Brent Pry learn to win a one possession ball game?

We are firmly in year three of the Brent Pry era of Virginia Tech football. College football is a results business, and currently, Virginia Tech and its fan base aren’t particularly enamored with the results.

The latest case in point is Virginia Tech blowing a 21-3 third-quarter advantage to a sleepy Syracuse squad. Cue the excuses. Cue the explanations. “We didn’t have our two best players. We had a backup QB, a running back by committee”. Sounds like the same excuses that were proposed under the Justin Fuente regime. It’s always a reason why the Hokies failed to secure the victory.

When the season began, who knew that we would be saying, “Virginia Tech is a .500 football team with one of the most returning rosters in all of college football.” Here we are through nine games and they're one-game over .500 with Clemson coming to Blacksburg next weekend.

This was supposed to be a turning point in Virginia Tech football. This was supposed to be a come up year. To take you behind the curtain, I start looking at possible bowl games at this time of year. Now I’m looking at what bowl teams will visit me locally.

Pry has done some great things that help build a program. We need wins. We need a signature win. So far, the Hokies haven’t been able to deliver on both levels. When does the tide turn? Look up the 2025 recruiting rankings. Tell me things are going to get better. This was the year that Virginia Tech was supposed to be “back”.

The Hokies are so far from being “back”, I considered pulling my NIL contribution. The players have worked their tails off, and I see the effort. The problem is, that the results speak for themselves.
