Leading 21-3 in the third quarter, the Virginia Tech football team was looking to pick a bowl-eligible win on the road at Syracuse. Playing without quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten, the Hokies were in complete control of the game against the Orange.
Then, everything changed with a missed tackle and before you knew it, Syracuse rallied for a 24-21 lead. Virginia Tech scored the next 10 points for a late 31-24 lead but was unable to get one more stop on defense, the Orange tied the game with 30 seconds left then won in overtime, 38-31, to drop Tech to 5-4 on the season. It's a game that no matter what the injuries are, you need to close out that game. No excuses.
Another one-score game, another loss under Brent Pry. Another late-game lead on the road, another late-game blown lead, and a loss on the road. The second one in overtime this season. Remember Week 1 at Vanderbilt? It's safe to say Hokies fans are growing frustrated with a 1-11 record under their third-year head coach.
Virginia Tech fans growing frustrated with Brent Pry
Injuries or not, this was a game that there was no excuse for losing. It would have been a season-defining win, instead, it's another bad loss on Pry's record in Blacksburg.
It was another game where there were some questionable coaching decisions and once again, that doesn't get lost on social media. One different decision might have made a difference.
I mean, 1-11 speaks for itself. With all the hype that the Hokies had entering the season and with the way the season has gone, it's fair to question as to whether or not Pry is the coach to turn things around, but one thing is clear, the fanbase is growing frustrated, and rightfully so.
