The ACC Kickoff is officially underway in Charlotte, and we still have to wait another day until Thursday to hear from Brent Pry and Virginia Tech. It should be interesting to hear what he has to say as he enters a pivotal Year 4 in Blacksburg.

The schedule is a tough one, and finding six wins could be difficult for the Hokies, but there are some games that they should win. Here are three games that could be potential trap games for Virginia Tech in 2025.

Old Dominion (Sept. 13)

You might this is a crazy choice, but Virginia Tech opens with a pair of SEC schools, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The game against the Gamecocks is on Sunday, Aug. 31 in Atlanta, but they will have a six day turnaround before hosting the Commodores at Lane Stadium.

After two brutal games six days apart, Pry will have to regroup his team to face ODU at home and it could easily be a letdown regardless of the results the first two weeks. Losses to South Carolina and Vanderbilt would make this an absolute must-win game for the Hokies, something they don't want to be facing.

Wake Forest (Oct. 4)

One week after opening ACC play at North Carolina State, the Hokies will open the home portion of their conference schedule against the Demon Deacons, a team going through a transition with Washington State's Jake Dickert taking over for Dave Clawson. Wake Forest is another game that should be a win, but this is a clear trap game.

Becoming bowl-eligible and getting six wins will be tough, but if they can at least split their non-conference games, they will need four conference wins; they can't afford a loss. This game falls between a trip to Raleigh to play the Wolfpack and a trip to Atlanta to play a very good Georgia Tech team looking for revenge for a loss in Blacksburg last fall.

California (Oct. 24)

The month of November is a monster for the Hokies with home games against Louisville and Miami and trips to Florida State and Virginia. Having at least five wins to begin the month is an almost must should they want to get to a third straight bowl game and Cal is without a doubt a trap game for Tech.

The Hokies will be coming in off a bye, and the Golden Bears will be traveling across the country for a Friday night game in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech has had a lot of success in weeknight games in Lane Stadium of late, and this is one they can't overlook with a difficult final four games in 2025 for them.
