Virginia Tech News: Hokies WR enters portal, Fuga returning & more
By Scott Roche
In this edition of Virginia Tech news, a Hokies wide receiver enters the transfer portal, a former Virginia Tech recruit commits to another school, and Josh Fuga is returning to Blacksburg.
Da’Wain Lofton to enter the transfer portal
Tight end Dae’Quan Wright, running back Bryce Duke, and cornerback Derrick Canteen have already entered the transfer portal for the Hokies and on Tuesday, it was reported that wide receiver Da’Wain Lofton was going to enter the transfer portal. According to Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline, Lofton is expected to stay with Virginia Tech through the end of the month and the Military Bowl on Dec. 27 against Tulane.
In three seasons in Blacksburg, Lofton had 35 receptions for 410 yards and three touchdowns. The problem for him is that last offseason head coach Brent Pry hit the transfer portal hard for wide receivers and that slowly diminished his playing time.
Josh Fuga returning to Virginia Tech
First Antwaun Powell-Ryland announced on X Sunday that he is going to return to Virginia Tech next season, then Tuesday night, the Hokies and defensive coordinator Chris Marve got more huge news in terms of 2024 with Josh Fuga.
Interior lineman Josh Fuga is returning to Virginia Tech next season for a sixth season. This season, the Virginia native had 13 tackles, five solo and 0.5 sacks. Getting Fuga back is another key member of Marve’s defense that improved as the season went along.
Former Virginia Tech recruit commits to Virginia
Before Chris Tyree committed to Notre Dame, he was brought to Blacksburg under former coach Justin Fuente as a recruit. He ended up choosing South Bend, but last week, it was announced that he was entering the transfer portal.
Tuesday night Tyree committed to the University of Virginia on X. It’s a little surprising that he chose the Cavaliers, but he is a good replacement for Malik Washington.
