Earlier this week, it was reported that Virginia Tech tight end Dae’Quan Wright is going to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Dec. 4. It was reported Thursday that reserve running back Bryce Duke will follow Wright and hit the transfer portal.

Bryce Duke to leave Virginia Tech

It should not come as a surprise that Duke has decided to enter the transfer portal. He was behind Bhayshul Tuten on the depth and once the North Carolina A&T transfer got going, he became a big part of the Hokies offense.

This season Duke, a sophomore from Virginia, had 11 carries for 69 yards and all of that came in a game that was long decided by a blowout. In his freshman year in Blacksburg, Duke had 59 yards on 18 carries.

Aside from Tuten, Malachi Thomas got carries ahead of Duke, and with quarterback Kyron Drones bringing the ability to run the ball as well, that cut down the opportunities. All three are eligible to come back in 2024 and that would keep Duke further down the depth chart.

Duke, who was a Justin Fuente recruit, is a very talented back who is going to land somewhere where he will get some time and an opportunity to carry the ball.
