Virginia Tech Football: Hokies open as favorites against NC State
By Scott Roche
Saturday, the Virginia Tech football team did something they haven’t done all season long, they went on the road and won a game away from Blacksburg. The Hokies traveled to Boston and put together one of their best 60-minute efforts on the road in the Brent Pry-era with a 48-22 rout of Boston College at Alumni Stadium.
The win evens Virginia Tech’s record at 5-5 and moves them one step closer to becoming bowl-eligible, needing to win one of their final two games. After two consecutive games on the road, the Hokies return to the friendly confines of Lane Stadium this upcoming Saturday afternoon for an ACC battle against North Carolina State. In somewhat of a surprise, Pry’s team opens as a favorite over the Wolfpack.
Virginia Tech opens as a favorite against NC State
It’s clear the oddsmakers like the way Virginia Tech played against the Eagles and according to DraftKings, the Hokies open as a 3.5 favorite over a 7-3 North Carolina State team that is winners of three straight.
After the way the last three home games for the Hokies have gone, blowout wins over Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and Syracuse, it’s still surprising that they open as a favorite. All season long, they have been a different team at home than they have been on the road.
NC State beat Wake Forest, 22-6, Saturday on the road and this past week, quarterback MJ Morris decided to not play the rest of the season and enter the transfer portal. He had played well for the Wolfpack, who turned back to Virginia transfer Brennan Armstrong who will be under center this upcoming weekend in Blacksburg.
Dave Doeren’s team is already bowl-eligible and Pry’s team is trying to get there and follow up their performance against BC at home and honor their seniors with a win in their final game at Lane and become bowl-eligible. If they don’t, it will all come down to Thanksgiving Weekend at Virginia.
