After playing their second consecutive game this week when the Virginia Tech football team travels to Boston College, the Hokies are in desperate need of a victory.

Sitting a 4-5 and needing to win two of their final three games, the Hokies will look to do something they have yet to do in 2023 and that’s win a football game away from Lane Stadium. Easier said than done for Brent Pry’s team.

After this weekend, Virginia Tech will return to Blacksburg to play their final home game of 2023 when North Carolina State comes to town. The Wolfpack are currently 6-3 and coming off impressive wins over Clemson and Miami. Since making the change at quarterback from Brennan Armstrong to MJ Morris, the offense has clicked for head coach Daev Doeren. Ahead of NC State’s game this week at Wake Forest, Morris made a stunning decision on the rest of the season for himself and his teammates.

MJ Morris decides to redshirt the remainder of the 2023 season

Morris led the Wolfpack to impressive wins to get them team bowl-eligible, but he decided to redshirt the rest of the season and sit out the final three games and NC State’s bowl game. That will lead to Armstrong, a Virginia transfer, to slide back under center beginning this week against the Demon Deacons.

Morris was nothing short of sensational for Doeren and the Wolfpack this season. In four games, he has thrown for 719 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions. Again, he led NC State to two huge wins over the Tigers and Hurricanes to become bowl-eligible.

What happens to the Wolfpack offense the rest of the season after this decision remains to be seen, but with Morris under center, they had a very good opportunity to run the table over the final three weeks against Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina at home to get to 9-3 and set themselves up for a nice bowl game. It can still happen, but without a doubt, this was a stunning decision for early November. Maybe, just maybe, the game vs. NC State just got a whole more interesting.
