By Scott Roche
The Virginia Tech men’s basketball season begins in five days when they host Coppin State on Nov. 6 in the second game of a doubleheader with the women, who open their season at 5 p.m. against High Point. Before that game even tips off, head coach Mike Young hopes to get a win off the court in recruiting.
Four-star Nic Codie is scheduled to make his final decision tomorrow afternoon and the Hokies are one of the finalists.
Nic Codie has Virginia Tech as a finalist ahead of decision
Codie will make his announcement on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT and his final choices are down to the Hokies, Auburn, Houston, Miami, Texas, LSU, and TCU.
Codie recently spoke to On3 about visiting each of the finalists and here is what he had to say about Virginia Tech,
“They’re in constant communication. Coach JD Byers is always texting me or calling me. He is always checking in after games and has done a great job of letting me know how I would fit in there. He does a great job communicating, and that’s what I like about Virginia Tech.”
Young lost out on four-star recruit Micah Robinson who chose to attend TCU, but he did get a win a couple of weeks later when Ryan Jones chose Virginia Tech over his hometown Florida Gators.
Codie is the 45th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2024 according to On3 and the 6-foot-8 power forward is the seventh-ranked player at his position According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, Codie has a 7-foot-2 wingspan and he has the ability to get into the paint and finish offensively. Getting him to commit to Tech would be a huge win for Young and his staff with an eye toward the 2024-25 season with Jones already in the fold.
