All the news on the recruiting front for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team on the recruiting front has been mixed. Coach Mike Young got a commitment from three-star small forward Tyler Johnson in August, then lost out on four-star recruit Micah Robinson last month when he chose TCU over the Hokies.

Last week, four-star forward Ryan Jones announced his final two as choices Virginia Tech and Florida. Monday night, he made his decision and it was a huge win for Young and his staff.

Virginia Tech gets commitment from 4-star recruit Ryan Jones

Jones announced via 247Sports that he will attend Virginia Tech over staying close to home in Gainsville, Fla., and playing with the Gators. This is a huge win in recruiting for Young and his staff as forwards usually thrive in his offense and that is something that Jones will be able to do.

Jones can score from the inside and outside which is going to be huge. He can catch and shoot the 3, as well as scoring off the dribble. Young has always been able to recruit 3-point shooters and Jones is going to join a list of forwards who can score from beyond the arc for the Hokies.

The 6-foot-8 Jones is a top 70 recruit according to 247Sports and with his big frame, he will be able to handle the physicality of the ACC being a strong rebounder, he will not be afraid of the long, lanky athletic bodies the conference sees on a night in and night out basis.

During his time in Blacksburg, Young has been able to get the athletic forwards to commit thanks in large part to his system which gives them multiple options to be able to score. So for the Class of 2024, Johnson and Jones are committed and it is two big additions for the Hokies for the future.
