As the Virginia Tech football team begins fall camp, there is going to be a lot of eyes on the Hokies. After a disappointing 2024 season, Virginia Tech is looking to bounce back in 2025 with a lot of different faces on the roster and on the coaching staff.
However, if there is one thing that is fairly known throughout the fanbase and college football, Year 4 is a big one for head coach Brent Pry. His seat is hot as the season begins, and Ari Wasserman of On3 dropped his eight coaches on the hot seat as camp begins, with Pry coming in at No. 6.

Brent Pry beginning the season on the hot seat should not be a surprise to Virginia Tech fans
It's no secret that the heat is on Pry this season as he is 16-21 in his first three seasons in Blacksburg, but 2024 was supposed to be the year that the program took the next step under him, and they failed to do so by a large margin. Things went south Week 1 at Vanderbilt and spiraled from there.
Just how hot the seat is remains to be seen. Is it hot enough that if things spiral again early in the season, would he let go during the season? Will he make it to the end of the season? A lot of questions, but one way for him to make it past this season and cool off his seat is winning one-score games, something that has been a thorn in his side since he came over from Penn State.
You get the feeling that at least a six-win season and becoming bowl-eligible would save his job for another season, but if it's five or lower, then things get uncomfortable for Pry. Regardless, improvement is needed this fall.
