Some college football teams are entering the 2025 season with a lot of question marks, and one of those is Virginia Tech. One year after a disappointing 2024 campaign, the Hokies are entering Year 4 of the Brent Pry era in Blacksburg with a lot of questions, but one outlet ranked Tech in the upper half of FBS schools. Athlon Sports ranked them 55th coming into the season out of 136 teams.

This is a ranking that feels about right. Entering what feels like a make-or-break season for Pry, the Hokies have added some portal talent that feels like it is underrated, and a healthy Kyron Drones at quarterback will go a long way in helping Virginia Tech.

Steve Lassen of Athlon Sports wrote this about Virginia Tech after ranking them 55th,

"After a disappointing 2024, the pressure is building on coach Brent Pry. With new coordinators on both sides of the ball, along with only four starters returning, the Hokies are surrounded in unknowns. A healthy season from quarterback Kyron Drones would be a big boost."

There is no doubt that a healthy Kyron Drones would be very beneficial to the Hokies, Pry, and first-year offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery. Lassen is also correct with the lack of starters returning, but sometimes teams that don't have a lot of experience returning can be a surprise, something that would be beneficial to Pry.

Virginia Tech is going to find it difficult to replace Bhayshul Tuten, but Bowling Green transfer Terion Stewart is more than capable of coming in and handling a lot of the load, but he'll do it behind an offensive line that will be learning on the go. The wide receiver core has some questions and will be young, but Ayden Greene returns looking to lead the group, and Tennessee transfer Cam Seldon can be a big-playmaker.
