We are still less than four months away from the 2025 college football season kicking off. Every team has questions they are looking for answers to, and that includes Virginia Tech. Rosters are starting to come together with the transfer portal closed and players starting to make their decisions for next season and in some cases, beyond.
The Hokies are facing a more difficult schedule in 2025 than they did in 2024, where an experienced team with a ton of retention needed to beat Virginia on Thanksgiving Weekend for a second straight year to just become bowl-eligible. With a ton of roster turnover that saw players enter the NFL Draft and find a professional home to try and stick with, and players entering the portal, you can see where there are questions for Virginia Tech going into 2025.
CFB writer projects Virginia Tech to become bowl-eligible in 2025
As stated above, the roster turnover leaves uncertainty, and with a tougher schedule, a bowl game in 2025 isn’t guaranteed, but Brad Crawford of 247Sports believes they will be a bowl team. In his college football bowl projections: Updated spring picks for the 2025 season, he has Virginia Tech playing Baylor out of the Big 12 in the First Responder Bowl.
Now let’s be clear, Crawford did not project what the Hokies' record would be, but they have a tough first two weeks, playing a pair of SEC schools, South Carolina in Atlanta and Vanderbilt at home, before two more non-conference games at home against Old Dominion and Wofford. After that, the conference schedule isn’t easy, and it ends with a trip to Charlottesville Thanksgiving Weekend for a bout with Virginia, who is also looking at a rather big 2025 campaign and trying to bowl eligibility.
There is still a lot of time before camp begins this summer and ultimately, the regular season, but Crawford thinks the Hokies will reach a bowl game for the third straight season. In the eyes of Virginia Tech fans, the season will be determined by the number of wins the Hokies have rather than just becoming bowl-eligible.
