For the first time since 2019, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will not be part of the NCAA Tournament after being the first team left out of the 68-team field. Two Ivy League schools, Columbia and Princeton, got at-large bids over the Hokies, which was disappointing.
After being left out of the field, Virginia Tech will still play more basketball this season as they are the top-seed for the 32-team WBIT that was announced after the NCAA Tournament Selection Show. They will open play this week back inside Cassell Coliseum.

Virginia Tech women's basketball gets top seed in WBIT
It's not what the Hokies and first-year coach Megan Duffy were hoping for, but they get to play at least one more game for seniors Matilda Ekh and Rose Micheaux. Here is the bracket for Virginia Tech's on the top left side of the bracket.
- No. 8 North Carolina A&T (19-11) at No. 1 Virginia Tech (18-12)
- No. 5 Texas Tech (17-17) at No. 4 Wyoming (22-11)
- No. 6 Northern Iowa (17-16) at No. 3 Florida (16-17)
- No. 7 Hawaii (22-9) at No. 2 UNLV (25-7)
The first round begins on Thursday, then the second round will be March 23 with the quarterfinals on March 27. The first three rounds will be played at the higher seeded schools before the tournament shifts to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the semifinals and championship game. The semifinals will be played on March 31, with the championship game two nights later on April 2.
Two other ACC schools made the WBIT with Boston College and Stanford, two teams that beat Virginia Tech in February and kept them out of the NCAA Tournament, are also part of the field. The three other top seeds were Colorado, James Madison and Saint Joseph's. The first three rounds can be seen on ESPN+, with the semifinals on ESPNU and the championship game on ESPN2.
