So much for a slow news month for the Virginia Tech women's basketball team in July. Megan Duffy enters her third year in Blacksburg after taking over for Kenny Brooks who bolted for Kentucky.

Duffy has been adding to her 2026-27 roster with a couple of freshmen recently added. On Wednesday night, Duffy landed another four-star commitment in the Class of 2027 when Dani Robinson committed to the Hokies, Duffy's second four-star commit in the rising senior class.

As far as the current Hokies go, Duffy will have a new-look roster when the Hokies take the floor to open next season. Before going into ACC play, which will be a daunting schedule, Virginia Tech will face some non-conference games as tune-ups for conference play. For the third straight year under Duffy, the Hokies will again take part in a tournament during Thanksgiving Week.

Virginia Tech women's basketball to play in 2026 Emerald Coast Classic

After going to Florida two years ago, Virginia Tech went to the U.S. Virgin Islands to play in the Paradise Jam. This upcoming season, the Hokies will be heading to Florida again to take part in the 2026 Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Florida. Here are the matchups for the first day on Nov. 23.

  • Alcon State vs. Michigan State, Noon
  • Virginia Tech vs. UT Martin, 2:30

The consolation game will be at noon on Nov. 24, with the championship game slated for 2:30 at Raider Arena.

If chalk holds, the Hokies could have a matchup with Michigan State, which would be an NCAA Tournament résumé builder. Last season, the Spartans beat Colorado State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Oklahoma in the second round.

This will be a good early-season test for Virginia Tech in a tournament at a neutral site. It will test Duffy's team before things ramp up with the ACC/SEC Challenge the following week, when the Hokies will host Tennessee at Cassell Coliseum.
