June is a rather quiet month when it comes to college basketball for both men and women. Incoming freshmen usually make their way to campus, and practices for the summer are right around the corner. However, this June was a busy one for Virginia Tech women's coach Megan Duffy in terms of recruiting.
There was some big roster turnover following the 2025-26 season for Duffy and the Hokies, who lost Mackenzie Nelson and Carys Baker to the Transfer Portal. Both are remaining in the ACC, with Nelson committing to Clemson and Baker to Louisville. Virginia Tech did hit the portal for some additions, including a pair from Tennessee.
However, Duffy and her staff picked up a commitment from a Class of 2026 guardfreshman Francesca Baldassarre. She is from Italy and in 2025-26, she averaged 8.9 points a game and shot 26% from behind the arc in Italy's top league, Serie A1. She is the 12th roster player for the Hokies next season.
Virginia Tech to host Tennessee in ACC/SEC Challenge
Speaking of Tennessee, the Hokies will host the Vols in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge in December at Cassell Coliseum. It will be a reunion of sorts for two of Virginia Tech's transfers, Alyssa Patham and Lauren Hurst, who come to Blacksburg from Knoxville.
This is the second straight season that the Hokies will play the ACC/SEC Challenge game at home after beating Florida this past December. They are 2-0 under Duffy in the challenge after taking down Georgia on the road in her first season in charge of the Hokies.
Virginia Tech to host Class of 2027 recruit
Expect recruiting to pick up when it comes to the Class of 2027 for Duffy. Four-star wing Nevaeh Roberson will visit Blacksburg on July 31, among her visits lined up for the summer and early fall. She has already visited Ole Miss and will visit Virginia on July 1.
According to Dushawn London of 247Sports, she will visit Virginia Tech on July 31 and has scheduled trips to North Carolina and Florida in August and September. This will be an interesting recruitment with three ACC schools involved, for now.
