A frustrating and program-changing 2025 season is about to come to an end for the Virginia Tech football team. A season that started with so many questions saw head coach Brent Pry fired after a Week 3 loss at home to Old Dominion, and interim coach Philip Montgomery took the reins.

To Montgomery's credit, he regrouped the team and kept things together, and has the Hokies at 3-8 heading into the Commonwealth Clash at Virginia on Saturday night in Charlottesville. While the Hokies are playing out the string, this is a massive game for the Cavaliers, who are 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the ACC. A win over the Hokies and UVA is bound for Charlotte and the ACC Championship Game.

Despite having a tough season and the James Franklin era beginning in Blacksburg after the game, the Hokies have a chance to knock their rivals out of the ACC Championship Game with a victory at Scott Stadium. If Virginia doesn't win this game, when will they ever beat Virginia Tech?

Virginia Tech vs. Virginia: Prediction

Ok, again, this is all setting up for a Virginia win and a trip to the ACC Championship Game. It's been a dream season for the Cavaliers, and they have taken advantage of their schedule to be in this position. CBS Sports took a shot at them earlier this week about the ACC maybe not wanting them in the title game, but they can get there with a win.

The line has come down since it opened at 10.5 in favor of Virginia to 8.5, which really isn't surprising. Everything lines up for Virginia to win and win easily, but that isn't always the case in rivalry games. The thinking here is, until the Cavaliers can win, go with the Hokies. If Virginia doesn't do it this year, when will they ever do it with James Franklin on board in Blacksburg?

Prediction: Virginia Tech 27, Virginia 26
