You knew that eventually there was going to be some adversity for the Virginia Tech football team under first-year coach James Franklin. After the Hokies started the season 4-0 after a win at Boston College, the Hokies have dropped two straight in stunning fashion.

They dropped a 35-33 game at home to Pittsburgh when John Love missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired. Then, last weekend, Love missed two more kicks, and Virginia Tech was outplayed and outcoached by California in a 25-20 loss on the road. Now, they will look to snap their losing streak at home against Brent Key and Georgia Tech.

This will be a battle between two teams coming off two very different results. Georgia Tech handed Duke their first loss of the 2026 season this past weekend at home and is looking to turn things around after a loss at Stanford two weeks ago. If Virginia Tech is going to come away with a win before a trip to Clemson next weekend, they are going to need to figure things out defensively and with their special teams. Here is an in-depth look at Saturday's game, which will be Homecoming in Blacksburg.
