To say that the Virginia Tech football team has been dominating the Commonwealth Cup would be a major understatement. The Hokies beat Virginia, 37-17, on Saturday night at Lane Stadium for their 19th win in the last 20 matchups.
Things have been so one-sided that Cavaliers coach Tony Elliott had to educate his team leading into the game about the rivalry. With the current state of college football with the transfer portal and players jumping from program to program, it's easy to see why Elliott had to do that.
No matter what he said or did, the result on Saturday night was the same, a double-digit win for the Hokies. Last season, Virginia Tech entered the game at 5-6, like this season, and rolled to a 55-17 rout in Charlottesville to cap a huge second-half turnaround. The lopsided loss seemed to strike a nerve with Virginia as while the Hokies were celebrating on the field after the game, the sprinklers came on. Remember this?
Was it intentional? Who knows, but after this season's win, Virginia Tech trolled their rivals on X.
Virginia Tech trolls Virginia after Commonwealth Cup victory
After the Hokies victory on Saturday night in Blacksburg, Virginia Tech once again went back for a team photo, but this time, they trolled Virginia with a funny photo and caption.
The image posted on X of the Hokies after beating Virginia was taken on the practice field outside of Lane Stadium with the caption, "No sprinklers this time.'' It's a jab at what happened last November in Charlottesville and something that won't be soon forgotten for a long time.
You have to love rivalry games as there are no stops that go unturned when it comes to beating your rival and winning, especially when you have had the dominating run that the Hokies program is on now over the Cavaliers.
